The Stuff of Life

A client recently handed me a photograph and said, "I don't know what to do with any of this."

She wasn't talking about the photograph. She meant the 40 years of art, furniture, jewelry, and books filling every room of a home she'd spent a lifetime curating.

This is the conversation no one prepares families for — not attorneys, not financial advisors, not even the most attentive children. The legal and financial frameworks for estate transitions are well-established. The human framework? Far less so.

At Department of Better, we sit at that intersection. We work alongside estate counsel, trust officers, and senior advisors to bring order — and dignity — to the physical dimension of life transitions. That means cataloguing collections with an expert eye, connecting families to the right auction houses, dealers, and consignment specialists, and designing the spaces that come next.

The families we serve have built extraordinary lives. They deserve a transition process that honors that.

If you or your clients are navigating this territory, I'd welcome a conversation. Drop me a line at hello@departmentofbetter.co and we'll talk.
