Can you provide references, and do you carry insurance?

Absolutely. Good relationships are the backbone of this business, and word-of-mouth referral is our best marketing tool.

We take full responsibility if anything breaks or is damaged while under our care. 

Do you offer customized floor plans?

We do! We will measure your new space before you make your move (or work with existing plans), design the space with your furniture, and provide design layouts for you. 

Do you create mood boards and 3-D drawings?

Department of Better will create presentation boards that include fabric samples, color palettes, carpeting swatches, and furniture selections to take the guess work out of the design process.

Do you provide organizing, sorting, and editing services? 

Based on an hourly fee, we work with you to edit what you have and make those tough decisions about what to keep and what to let go of.

Do you arrange for the profitable disposal of unwanted items through auction, consignment, donation, estate sale, or a combination?

Yes! We work with a well-established network of local and national antique dealers, auction houses, and consignment venues to ensure you get top dollar for your clothing, furniture, and heirlooms. We also research donation sites that ensure your well-loved household objects, kitchenware, clothing, and furniture go those in need. 

I need my furniture fixed,

re-upholstered, new curtains, plus a table built. Can you help?

Our roster of artisans, furniture makers, refinishers, textile craftspeople, conservators, and associated vendors are not only vetted for quality workmanship and material knowledge, but also for their ability to deliver on-time and on-budget. 

Do you interview, schedule and oversee movers?

Whether you’re moving around the corner, across the state or the country, we not only find you the best movers, but will manage their work.

How is the billing arranged for the movers?

Like all our work with outside vendors, you are billed directly by the moving company so that you see what you are paying for.

Do you pack or do you hire a moving company to perform the packing?

We will oversee packing up your belongings but, we do not do this work ourselves due to insurance liability.

Do you completely unpack and set up the new home?

We are happy to unpack your boxes, hang your artwork, and even fluff your toss pillows!

What kinds of things can you sell or repurpose for me?

Condition, age, and provenance matter when selling heirlooms, books, fine art, and clothing. We research values, as well as sources to sell things. We also negotiate sales on your behalf, as well as delivery.

What additional services do you offer?

We can provide information on numerous resources including photo organizing and archiving, paper shredding, reliable realtors, part-time staffing, and other ancillary businesses.
